FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE 01/22/2026
From the Office of the City Manager
City of Baldwin Urges Residents to Prepare for
Anticipated Winter Weather
Baldwin, Georgia — The City of Baldwin is actively monitoring an approaching winter weather system that is forecasted to affect North Georgia beginning late Friday evening and potentially extending through the weekend and into early next week. Weather models currently suggest a mix of freezing rain, sleet, and snow, with ice accumulation posing the greatest concern. Minor shifts in temperature could result in rapid changes to road and infrastructure conditions.
The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Watch for much of the region, which may be elevated to a Winter Storm Warning or Winter Weather Advisory as confidence in the forecast increases. Residents should be prepared for hazardous travel, isolated power interruptions, and sustained cold temperatures that could remain below freezing for several days.
Water System and Resident Precautions
Residents are strongly encouraged to take proactive measures to protect plumbing and water service lines from freezing conditions. Any exposed piping should be adequately insulated. If residents experience water leaks, interruptions in service, or notice potential water main issues, they should contact Baldwin City Hall immediately at (706) 778-6341 so City personnel can respond promptly. After-hours emergencies should be reported to (678) 725-2462.
Road Conditions and City Operations
City of Baldwin crews will be monitoring weather conditions and will deploy equipment to scrape and treat roadways as conditions require. Despite these efforts, icy conditions may persist, particularly during overnight hours and periods of freezing rain. Residents are advised to limit travel where possible. If travel is necessary, motorists should reduce speeds and exercise extreme caution.
Cold Weather and Travel Impacts
Icy conditions could develop as early as Saturday and may continue into Monday or Tuesday, depending on temperatures. Forecasts also indicate very cold overnight lows early next week, potentially dropping into the teens or lower. These temperatures increase the likelihood of refreezing and additional stress on infrastructure.
Stay Informed
Residents are encouraged to closely follow updates from the National Weather Service and trusted local media outlets, as conditions and forecasts may change. The City of Baldwin will continue to provide updates as new information becomes available.
The safety of Baldwin residents remains our highest priority. Please take appropriate precautions, prepare ahead of time, and check on neighbors who may need assistance during this period of potentially severe winter weather.
Respectfully,
Tiera Morrison
City Manager
City of Baldwin
